China-Latin America Think Tank Cooperation Forum Held in Beijing

On November 16, the exclusive sub-forum "China-Latin America and the Caribbean Think Tank Cooperation Forum" of the 14th "China-LAC Business Summit", jointly organized by SWUFE and the Institute of Latin American Studies of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, was held in Beijing. The incorporation of the "China-Latin America and the Caribbean Think Tank Cooperation Forum" for the first time is the highlight of this "China-LAC Business Summit". The core content is "the responsibilities of the think tanks to drive China-LAC cooperation". Peng Long, Executive Vice President of SWUFE, participated the video conference and delivered a speech.


Wang Linggui, vice president of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, pointed out in his keynote speech that it is necessary to strengthen the joint research of China-LAC think tanks, promote the transformation of the research results of China-LAC think tanks, improve the communication capacities of China-LAC think tanks, develop systematic and efficient social services, and assist in various forms of public relations and diplomacy to activate the strengths of think tanks in China-LAC cooperation.


Peng Long put forward constructive suggestions for China-LAC think tank cooperation from three aspects of sticking to the path of characteristic innovation, the path of openness and integration, and the path of diplomacy and development. At the same time, he introduced SWUFE’s profound history and development goals, and hoped to further deepen the relationship with relevant think tanks, experts and scholars both from China and Latin America, and jointly gather wisdom and resources for the high-quality sustainable development of China and Latin America.


Chai Yu, director of the Institute of Latin America of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, said that Latin America is an important player in the “Belt and Road” international cooperation, and achieving high-quality development is a common task faced by both China and Latin America. Think tanks are not only vehicles of national soft power, but also platforms for cooperation. The establishment of a China-LAC think tank cooperation network will bring new ideas to the development of China-Latin America relations.


Wang Rongjun, Secretary of the Party Committee and Deputy Director of the Latin American Institute of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, issued the "Consensus of China-LAC Think Tanks"; Researchers Yang Zhimin and Yue Yunxia of the Latin American Institute respectively issued "Five Links" Research Reports on China-Latin America under the Framework of "One Belt and One Road" (Chinese Version and Spanish version)" and "China-Latin America and the Caribbean Economic and Trade Cooperation Progress Report (2021)" .


Alessandro Golombevsky Teixeira, former Minister of Tourism of Brazil and Professor of Tsinghua University, Guillermo Prido Gonzalez, Director of the Beijing Representative Office of the National Autonomous University of Mexico, Shang Liping, Vice President of Southwest University of Science and Technology, Zhu Chaowei, Vice President of Sichuan International Studies University, and Zhang Huanzhou, Vice President of Zhejiang International Studies University, conducted in-depth exchanges on the theme of "Think Tanks Driving China-Latin America Economic and Trade Cooperation". Yuan Dongzhen, Deputy Director of the Latin American Institute of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, Guillermo Salvador Marinaro, Professor of the School of Foreign Languages of Fudan University, Tao Yitao, Dean of the “Belt and Road” Research Institute of Shenzhen University, Li Yafang, Director of the American Communication Center of the China Foreign Languages Bureau, Ren Fangming, director of SWUFE’s Global Financial Strategy Laboratory, and Zhang Qing, professor of Sichuan International Studies University, gave speeches on the theme of "Global Economic Governance and China-Latin America Cooperation".


At the forum, SWUFE signed a strategic cooperation framework agreement with the Latin American Institute of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences. The two parties will carry out in-depth cooperation in joint scientific research, exchange visits of scholars, student internships, and the joint establishment of SWUFE's Latin American research center, further enhancing SWUFE's regional and national research capabilities and the implementation of international strategies. The head of SWUFE’s Beijing Research Institute chaired the forum and signed the framework agreement on behalf of SWUFE.
