Speaker’s Profile:
Prof. John Monterosso is Associate Professor of Psychology and the Deputy Director of the Neuroscience Undergraduate Program at University of Southern California. He received a Ph.D from the University of Pennsylvania. John studies the psychology and neuroscience of motivation and emotion. He has received more than $2 million in funding from the National Institute of Health, and has co-authored more than 90 scientific articles in journals including Science, and the Proceedings of National Academy of Sciences and has also written commentaries on science in popular press outlets including the New York Times.

People are prone to overindulge in behaviors that are immediately gratifying. In this seminar we will introduce psychology (and some neuroscience) that will help to clarify why this is the case. Why people nowadays can't stop swiping their phones with high frequency? How to truly achieve self-discipline and improve concentration? What are the human strategies to overcome temptations?
