Singapore Consul-General in Chengdu Visited SWUFE

On December 5th, the Singapore Consul-General in Chengdu, Joel Tan Zhien, along with Deputy Consul Vivian Tay Hui Mun, visited the Southwestern University of Finance and Economics. The meeting was attended by Li Yongqiang, President of SWUFE, alongside representatives from the International Office of Exchange and Cooperation.

During the visit, President Li Yongqiang extended a warm welcome to the Singaporean delegation and provided a detailed overview of the university's history, basic information, and development strategies. He emphasized the university's commitment to advancing the "New Finance" strategy, leading innovative developments in higher education. Li also highlighted the university's active response to the "Belt and Road" initiative and its strong partnerships with prominent institutions in Singapore, such as the National University of Singapore, Singapore Management University, and the China Construction Bank Singapore Branch. Looking to the future, he expressed the university's desire to deepen collaboration with Singaporean counterparts, leveraging the continued support of the Consulate-General of Singapore in Chengdu.


In response, Joel Tan Zhien expressed gratitude for the warm reception and commended the university's achievements in talent cultivation, scientific research, and the upgrade of the "New Finance" strategy. He stressed the importance of people-to-people exchanges as the foundation of bilateral relations and pledged to actively facilitate more young Singaporeans' visits to Chengdu, Sichuan, and West China for educational exchanges. Furthermore, the Consulate-General expressed interest in establishing collaboration with SWUFE, particularly in the construction of the Chengdu-Chongqing dual-city economic circle.


Following the meeting, Joel Tan Zhien and Vivian Tay Hui Mun toured the University's History Museum, deepening their understanding of the institution's rich heritage and academic contributions.
