Southwestern University of Finance and Economics (SWUFE) hosted the 2023 Autumn Sports Meeting at its Liulin Campus from October 26th to October 27th. The event revolved around the theme "Celebrating the New Era, Striving for a New Journey, Ushering in the Centennial Celebration, and Forging Brilliance at SWUFE." The opening ceremony was graced by the presence of Chairman Zhao Dewu, President Li Yongqiang, Deputy Chairman Sun Dianming, Vice President Yin Qingshuang, Shi Daimin, Guifuqiang, and Lizhisheng, alongside heads from various functional departments and schools (institutes).
The sports meeting commenced at 8:30 AM on the 26th at the Chenxi Sports Field, and Zhao Dewu declared its initiation. During his opening speech, Li Yongqiang pointed out that sports are a vital symbol of social development and human progress, bearing the aspirations of national strength and rejuvenation. He emphasized that sports play a fundamental role in cultivating people and constitute a vital component of holistic development encompassing morality, intelligence, physique, aesthetics, and labor. The university places great importance on sports and students' healthy growth, views sports as a fertile ground for cultivating outstanding talents, and adheres to the philosophy of "healthy sports, joyful sports, and lifelong sports." SWUF concentrates on establishing a "1+3 sports teaching model", resulting in the new sports education framework characterized by "multiple sports at one university, one sport at one school, and one sport at one community" and the organic integration of physical education by teachers and students and talent cultivation by the university. The opening ceremony was presided over by Li Zhisheng.
This year's sports meeting featured 40 competitive events, including track and field, tennis, table tennis, badminton, billiards, orienteering, rainbow run, group rope jumping, tug-of-war, and sit-ups. In addition, new events such as shuttlecock kicking and sports carnival infused the university with more enthusiasm. The students invested their sweat and youth into the competitions, embodying the sports spirit of fearlessness in the face of hardships, unwavering determination, and a will to strive. They embraced the Olympic motto "Faster, Higher, Stronger - Together" as a source of spiritual strength in pursuing the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation. All faculty and students wholeheartedly participated in sports with boundless enthusiasm and high spirits, pushing their limits, letting sports kindle their passion, and showcasing the vigor of youth.
The sports meeting drew to a successful conclusion on the afternoon of the 27th, with Gui Fuqiang delivering the closing remarks. He expressed his wish for the students to persistently cultivate the determination, courage, and confidence required for the mission of national rejuvenation. He highlighted the significance of prioritizing health, developing good exercise habits, regularly exercising with fellow students on the verdant fields, and striving to achieve their aspirations at SWUFE and attain the mission of a stronger China.
The closing ceremony was orchestrated by Yang Yuanbo, the Dean of the School of Sports Science and Physical Education. Yin Tao, the Chief Referee of the competition, announced the results, and SWUFE leaders and department awarded prizes to the winning teams. The School of Accounting, the School of Business Administration, the School of Finance, and the Institute of Chinese Financial Studies secured the top three positions in the autumn sports meeting and "Guanghua Cup" sports competition series based on their total scores.
