Seminar on Energy Transition and Urban Renewal in the context of Global Carbon Neutrality Hosted at SWUFE

On December 3rd, the "Seminar on Energy Transition and Urban Renewal in the context of Global Carbon Neutrality," sponsored by the Low Carbon Development Professional Committee of the China Regional Economics Association and SWUFE’s Institute of Western China Economic Research, was held in Chengdu. More than 40 experts and scholars from institutions such as the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Nanjing University, Xi'an Jiaotong University, Southeast University, and SWUFE attended the conference.

Professor Li Zhisheng, Vice President of SWUFE, expressed his welcome to the leaders, experts, and guests at the conference. He emphasized that the seminar was timely and significant, as it focused on urban carbon reduction and green development, among other related topics. Li also introduced the university's development strategy of "building new liberal arts, leading new finance and economics, and creating new advantages" and the situation of disciplinary construction.

Researcher Zhang Qizai, Deputy Director of the Industrial Economics Research Institute of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, delivered a keynote speech entitled "Cultivating New Momentum for Urban Development in the New Era." He pointed out that the seminar responded to the needs of the times, gathering the latest research results of experts and scholars nationwide to jointly discuss the best practices and future trends of energy transition and urban renewal under the context of global carbon neutrality.

During the seminar, Researcher Yang Danhui from the Industrial Economics Research Institute of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences introduced the development of the Low Carbon Development Professional Committee. Meanwhile, Professor Zheng Jianghuai, Dean of the School of Economics at Nanjing University, Researcher Chen Weiqiang from the Institute of Urban Environment of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and Professor Chen Xiaoguang from the hosting university's School of Economics and Management gave keynote speeches on topics such as regional innovation cluster development, metal-energy coupling systems, and ozone pollution and agricultural development.

The seminar also set up three sub-forums. Sub-forum one had fruitful discussions on "regional coordinated development under the deep integration of digitalization and greenization." Experts attending sub-forums two and three shared their latest research results on the themes of "low-carbon development" and "energy transition and urban renewal," respectively.


The seminar on Energy Transition and Urban Renewal in the context of Global Carbon Neutrality was a success, as it provided a platform for experts and scholars to share their ideas and insights on how best to achieve carbon neutrality while promoting urban renewal and economic growth.
