Southwestern University of Finance and Economics (SWUFE) marked the one-year countdown to its centenary on June 3, 2024, commemorating 99 years of academic excellence and rich heritage. The ceremony took place at the university's Liulin campus in Chengdu, China.
Prior to the ceremony, participants, including university leaders, faculty, staff, and alumni, ran through the campuses in both the GuangHua and Liulin locations, retracing the university's historical journey. A themed video, "Salute to a Century: Marching into a New Journey," was screened, highlighting SWUFE's accomplishments and the enthusiasm of its alumni.
In his address, Zhao Jianjun, Chairman of the university council, expressed warm welcome to the attendees and gratitude to the university community. He emphasized that the centenary celebration would mark a new era for the institution, highlighting the importance of preserving the university's founding mission, fostering confidence in its development, uniting the university community, and embracing the responsibility of contributing to national growth. Zhao called for concerted efforts in organizing the centenary festivities, integrating them with the university's core academic activities, and ensuring their quality and impact.
During the event, President Li Yongqiang released the first Centennial Announcement. Zhao and Li jointly unveiled the centenary logo and inaugurated the Southwestern University of Finance and Economics Shenzhen Advanced Research Institute. A series of cooperation agreements were signed between the university and partnering organizations.
The centenary countdown was officially launched by Wang Yuguo, Zhao Jianjun, Li Yongqiang, alumnus Zeng Yongjiang, faculty representative Chen Jiandong, and student representative Wang Zimu. The ceremony concluded with the audience singing the university's anthem.
Southwestern University of Finance and Economics, with its century-long dedication to education and research, continues to strive for excellence as it embarks on a new chapter in its illustrious history.
