Brazilian Consulate General Opens in Chengdu, Strengthening Ties with SWUFE

On June 27, the Brazilian Consulate General in Chengdu held its official opening ceremony. Representatives from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Sichuan Provincial Government, the Chengdu Municipal Government, and various consulates in Chengdu attended the event. Shi Daimin, Vice President of the Southwestern University of Finance and Economics (SWUFE), was invited to the ceremony, accompanied by officials from the Office of International Exchange and Cooperation and the College of International Education.

During the ceremony, Shi Daimin engaged in a cordial conversation with Cézar Amaral, the first Consul General of Brazil in Chengdu. Shi extended congratulations on the opening and provided an overview of the collaborative efforts between SWUFE and Brazilian universities. César Amaral expressed appreciation for SWUFE's proactive approach in fostering friendly cooperation with Brazilian higher education institutions. Both parties expressed their intention to use the opening of the consulate as an opportunity to strengthen cooperation, enhance communication, and contribute to the advancement of higher education exchanges between China and Brazil.

From June 13 to 14, Shi Daimin led a delegation to visit the University of São Paulo and the Universidade Estadual de Campinas (UNICAMP) in Brazil. These visits significantly strengthened the relationship between SWUFE and Brazilian universities, laying a solid foundation for long-term cooperation.

The Brazilian Consulate General in Chengdu is Brazil's third consulate established in mainland China. Its jurisdiction includes Sichuan Province, Chongqing Municipality, Guizhou Province, Yunnan Province, and Shaanxi Province. China and Brazil have long enjoyed close cooperation in political, economic, and cultural fields. The year 2024 marks the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and Brazil, making the opening of the Brazilian Consulate General in Chengdu particularly significant. The consulate is expected to provide a more convenient platform for fostering friendly cooperation between Brazil and China's western region and offer SWUFE more opportunities to enhance collaboration with Brazilian educational institutions.
