On July 8, the Southwestern University of Finance and Economics (SWUFE) launched its Fifth Global Academy at the Liulin Campus Student Activity Center. The opening ceremony was attended by 279 international students and faculty from 43 universities across 44 countries and regions, alongside SWUFE faculty and students. The ceremony was officiated by Chairman of the University Council Zhao Jianjun, President Li Yongqiang, Vice Chairman Ming Haifeng, and Vice President Li Zhisheng, with several university department heads in attendance.
In his welcome speech, Li Zhisheng emphasized the university's commitment to "deep opening-up" as one of its core strategies, advancing high-level education internationalization. Since 2018, the Global Academy has attracted thousands of international students with its high-quality courses and rich cultural experiences. Li noted the importance of young people learning from history and contributing to the global community amid the current trends of multipolarity, economic globalization, informatization, and cultural diversity. He hoped participants would gain deeper insights into global economic, social, and technological developments, fostering enthusiasm for global governance and a shared vision for building a better world.
During the ceremony, Zhao Jianjun presented the academy flag to international faculty representatives, while Li Yongqiang handed commemorative gifts to international student representatives. Speeches from international and SWUFE student representatives followed, expressing their excitement and expectations for the academy.
The cultural performance segment featured melodic songs, dynamic dances, and unique Sichuan Opera acts, receiving enthusiastic applause and highlighting the university's open, diverse, and vibrant atmosphere.
The Global Academy, themed "Experiencing Chinese Culture, Witnessing SWUFE's Development," aims to deepen global youths' understanding of China's development and support innovative international educational cooperation. The arrival of global students and faculty enriches the international atmosphere at SWUFE. The academy is dedicated to sharing China's stories and SWUFE's achievements, enhancing the university's international influence and centennial legacy. Over the next two weeks, the academy will offer a variety of academic and cultural activities, enabling international and SWUFE students to engage, share knowledge, and enjoy a cultural feast together.
