Fields Medalist Professor Efim Zelmanov Invited to Deliver Academic Lecture at the University

On the morning of October 17, Professor Efim Zelmanov, a Fields Medalist and Foreign Member of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, was invited by the School of Mathematics to deliver an academic lecture titled "The Romance of Mathematics—Science and Art."

In his lecture, Professor Zelmanov began by discussing mathematics as an art form. He elaborated on the aesthetic symmetry in Galois theory and the applications of mathematics in cryptography, leading to a discussion of the discrete logarithm problem and the relationship between AI and mathematics. He explored the profound connections between mathematics, science, and art.


Before the lecture, Professor Zelmanov engaged in an in-depth exchange with faculty and student representatives from the School of Mathematics regarding the development of the mathematics discipline, talent cultivation, and the future of the school.


This lecture is part of the university's distinguished scholar series in celebration of its centennial. The "Distinguished Scholar Lecture Series" aims to broaden the academic perspectives of faculty and students by inviting renowned scholars from both domestic and international arenas, thereby inspiring innovative ideas as part of the university's centennial academic activities.
