On December 8, the final of the 20th Deloitte Tax Championship was held in Beijing. After fierce competition, a team from SWUFE, coached by faculty members Lü Min and Zhang Lunlun from the School of Public Finance and Taxation, won the national championship. The team consisted of students Zhang Li, Lu Zhiyi, Zheng Tianqiao, and Yang Yuting.
The Deloitte Tax Championship, launched in 2004, aims to promote the cultivation of tax talent in China’s higher education system and has become one of the most influential events in the field of taxation. The 2024 competition, which began in May, attracted 59 top universities from 35 cities, including Peking University, Renmin University of China, and the University of Hong Kong. After intense rounds of competition, 13 teams advanced to the semifinals.
The final case study focused on the complex tax issues faced by Chinese companies expanding overseas, as well as the innovative use of generative AI in financial and tax scenarios. After 11 hours of analysis, presentations, Q&A, and jury debates, the SWUFE team emerged as the national champions. Zhang Zhiyong, former deputy director of the State Administration of Taxation, and Jiang Ying, chairman of Deloitte China, presented the award to the winning team. Central University of Finance and Economics and Zhongnan University of Economics and Law won second and third place, respectively. Zhang Li was awarded the Best Performance Award.
This marks the 19th consecutive year that SWUFE has reached the final of the Deloitte Tax Championship, with this being the third national championship win. The university has long supported this competition, which highlights SWUFE’s commitment to nurturing top-tier tax talent and advancing the “New Finance and Economics” initiative. The university will continue to work with various partners to cultivate tax professionals with a strong sense of national responsibility, innovation, insight, and international vision.
