On June 1st, the celebration ceremony for the 100th anniversary of Southwestern University of Finance and Economics (SWUFE) was held at the gymnasium on the university's Liulin Campus. Nearly 3,000 faculty and student representatives, alumni, and guests from all walks of life gathered to look back on a century of remarkable history and to envision the blueprint for future development.
Southwestern University of Finance and Economics traces its origins to Kwang Hua University, founded in Shanghai in 1925. Over its 100-year history, the university has been home to a multitude of distinguished scholars and has cultivated generations of talented individuals, providing over 200,000 outstanding professionals for the nation's economic construction and social development.
Xu Qingsen, Vice Minister of Education, stated that Southwestern University of Finance and Economics has a glorious history. For a century, it has shared a common destiny with the nation and advanced in step with the times. It has cultivated the university spirit of "Administering the World and Serving the People, Striving with Diligence" and has provided over 200,000 outstanding talents who have governed, revitalized, and served the country, becoming a key base for high-level talent cultivation in the nation's financial, economic, and management sectors.
Chairman Zhao Jianjun remarked that the university's 100-year history is a story of striving to serve the people and the economy, and even more so, a history of educating talent for the Party and the country. It showcases the commendable character of all SWUFE members in "seizing opportunities and striving in unity," reflects the university's fearless courage for "reform, opening-up, and innovative development," and inscribes an enduring chapter of its "pursuit of excellence and remarkable achievements."
President Li Yongqiang stated that looking ahead to the journey of its second century, the university will remain committed to its fundamental task of fostering virtue through education and bravely undertake its mission of serving the nation through finance and economics. He added that the university is dedicated to building a SWUFE that gathers renowned scholars and nurtures outstanding talent, fosters innovation and self-reliance, embraces diversity and shared beauty, and integrates technology and humanities in symbiotic prosperity. The university will pursue excellence through rigorous scholarship and by serving the economy and the people, accelerating its development into a world-class university with distinctive characteristics in finance and economics.
