On the evening of June 1st, "Guanghua," an original play about the history of Southwestern University of Finance and Economics (SWUFE), successfully premiered at the university's Guanghua Hall. University leaders including Chairman Zhao Jianjun and President Li Yongqiang attended the event. They were joined by over 1,000 people, including former university leaders, retired faculty, representatives of current faculty, students, and alumni, as well as external guests, who all gathered to celebrate SWUFE's centennial.
Set against the backdrop of SWUFE's century-long journey, "Guanghua" connects key moments and historical figures from the university's development. Through artistic expression, it presents a profound and brilliant hundred-year history, a heartfelt look back at the deep bond between teachers and students, a magnificent scroll of serving the economy and walking with the nation, and an immortal ode to an enduring academic legacy.
The play chronicles the university's path: from the founding of Kwang Hua University in 1925 in support of the May 30th Movement, to the establishment of a Chengdu campus in 1938 amid the flames of the War of Resistance; from the arduous pioneering work after the founding of New China, to seizing opportunities and forging ahead during the era of Reform and Opening-Up. It continues through the historic leap of becoming a "Project 211" university, to leading the future by deepening the "New Finance and Economics" practice in the World-Class Project.
The performance showcases the collective image of generations of SWUFE people who have breathed with the motherland, shared a common destiny with the nation, and advanced with the times. It vividly interprets the path of serving the nation through education, the path of unity and progress, and the path of pursuing excellence that Southwestern University of Finance and Economics has forged in its exploration.
