On the afternoon of 20 May, President Xi Jinping and Russian President Vladimir Putin jointly attended the opening ceremony of the “China-Russia Year of Education” at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing, where they delivered speeches and unveiled the official logo for the event. Zhao Jianjun, Chairman of University Council, was invited to attend the opening ceremony and, together with representatives from the Chinese and Russian education sectors, witnessed the launch of the “China-Russia Year of Education”.
The year 2026 marks the 30th anniversary of the China–Russia Strategic Partnership of Cooperation and the first education-focused thematic year between the two countries. SWUFE has long pursued a strategy of “deepening openness,” actively serving China’s diplomatic agenda and the Belt and Road Initiative while steadily expanding higher education exchanges with Russia.
SWUFE has joined the China-Russia Alliance of Economic Universities and the Yangtze-Volga University Alliance, and established long-term partnerships with Moscow State University, HSE University (National Research University Higher School of Economics), and Siberian Federal University. These partnerships support multi-tiered programs including short-term exchanges, credit recognition, and dual degrees.
Leveraging its strengths in finance, economics, and disciplinary advantages, SWUFE has advanced Sino-Russian research collaboration and joint talent cultivation. Together with Russian partners, the university has co-organized high-level conferences such as the Conference on Globalization Processes. To date, around 400 SWUFE students and faculty have participated in bilateral exchanges. Currently, 120 Russian students are enrolled at SWUFE, making them one of the largest international student groups on campus.
In 2025, the “Belt and Road” High-Level Talent Training Program in Financial Governance, jointly established by SWUFE and HSE University, received funding from the China Scholarship Council (CSC).
Taking the “China-Russia Year of Education” as an opportunity, SWUFE will continue to expand the scope of its educational cooperation with Russia, deepen mutual understanding, and help build a lasting foundation for closer bilateral ties.
